Cookie Policy

This policy explains how cookies are used on merchantuk.com and how you control analytics.

Effective date: 01 February 2026

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Some are needed for a site to work; others are used for measurement and analytics.

How we use cookies

Merchant UK uses cookies in a limited way:

  • Analytics cookies (optional): used only if you choose “Accept analytics” on our cookie banner.
  • Preference storage (essential for your choice): we store your analytics choice so we don’t keep asking on every page.

No advertising cookies: we do not use cookies for advertising, profiling, or cross-site marketing.

Analytics (Google Analytics)

If you opt in, we load Google Analytics to understand general site usage (for example, which pages are viewed and how people navigate). If you do not opt in, Google Analytics is not loaded.

Cookies we set

Type Name / example Purpose When set
Preference analytics_consent (localStorage) Stores your analytics choice (granted/denied). When you click Accept or Reject.
Analytics Google Analytics cookies (e.g. _ga) Helps measure site usage and performance. Only after you accept analytics.

How to change your choice

You can withdraw or change consent by clearing site data for merchantuk.com in your browser settings and revisiting the site. This removes the stored preference so the banner will ask again.
